Anchorage, Alaska – September was National Hunger Month and this year the Alaska Credit Union League conducted the Cash for Cans donation drive to help raise funds for local food banks and pantries, benefiting members and the community at large. Nearly every credit union in Alaska took part in this year’s promotion making it a huge success for the league.

The Cash for Cans promotion, initially created and trademarked by Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, has been happening since 2014. With the inclusion of the rest of the Alaska credit unions in 2019, the event was able to broaden its reach and facilitated the collection of funds. This year, even with the impacts of COVID-19, the participating credit unions were able to raise more than $79,000 helping to assist food banks and pantries in markets across the entire state of Alaska.

“We are continually amazed by the outpouring of generosity surrounding the Cash for Cans donation drive and are blown away by the donations collected this year,” said Dan McCue, president of the Alaska Credit Union League,  “donations that will assist local food banks and pantries in this, a year of greater need than ever before.”
