Record Funds Raised for Alaska USA Foundations Cash for Cans Fundraiser
October 23, 2020
From supporting fundraising initiatives to event sponsorships, a big part of our mission is to give back to the communities that have welcomed us.
ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Hunger is one of the most prominent issues in all of the communities the Alaska USA Foundation serves. With “people helping people” as their core purpose, CUNA Mutual Group Foundation, Inc. partnered with Alaska USA Foundation’s annual Cash for Cans® donation drive by providing a match challenge to encourage member donations. Through this partnership, member donations reached a record amount for this fundraiser.
“In a year like 2020, we are so grateful for our partners that help us magnify our fundraising efforts and support the communities we serve,” said Dan McCue, executive director, Alaska USA Foundation. “Through the generosity of CUNA Mutual Group Foundation, Inc., as well as our members, we are able to support organizations who help feed families and children that struggle with food insecurities.”
Alaska USA Federal Credit Union and the Alaska USA Foundation teamed up for the fundraiser, collecting cash donations at Alaska USA branches during the month of September, National Hunger Month. With CUNA Mutual Group Foundation, Inc.’s matching funds, the Alaska USA Foundation raised more than $107,000 and with a donation by the Alaska USA Foundation, the total donation is $140,000, which will assist numerous food banks and pantries in Alaska, Maricopa County in Arizona, the High Desert region of California, and Washington State. The donation totals for each state are as follows:
Alaska—$60,000
Arizona—$20,000
California—$26,000
Washington—$34,000
