(SAN ANTONIO, TX – OCTOBER 20, 2020) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation is partnering with the Texas Diaper Bank to ensure that families facing challenges during COVID-19 have diapers. As diapers are considered a hygiene item, they are not covered by safety-net programs or WIC, leaving many area families in need. Through a $5,000 donation, the foundation will help provide 25,000 diapers that will be given to 1,000 families in Bexar County and surrounding areas.

“Since March 2020, we have had a 58% increase in requests for diapers and wipes,” said Jorge Medina, chief executive officer for Texas Diaper Bank. “The generous donation from the Security Service Charitable Foundation is going to make a big difference for 1,000 families.”

Texas Diaper Bank works diligently to address the diaper gap and its impact on individuals in crisis. The diaper gap is the lack of access to an adequate supply of diapers and other healthcare products that impact physical health, mental health, and self-sufficiency for low-income families. In 2019, the Texas Diaper Bank distributed over 3 million diapers to 83,000 individuals in Bexar County and thirteen surrounding counties.

“The Texas Diaper Bank is the only diaper bank of its kind in South Texas, providing valuable necessities to families in need,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, ‎senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “It’s a privilege to help ensure area families have the supplies they need to provide safe and healthy resources for their children.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
