CaptureCarla Render has never bought a lottery ticket. But, after winning $10,000 in a regional Numerica Credit Union drawing that had more than 54,000 names, the Rathdrum woman is now thinking maybe she should. Render said she was stunned when her name was pulled from the firm's $20,000 Win! Win! drawing. "At first, I thought it was a big joke," Render said, referring to when she was notified. "Even (on Thursday when the money was received), I felt that way." Render plans to put most of her winnings into savings, but will also fulfill her grandkids' desires to have new bikes. "I've been thinking about buying them bikes - and now I will for sure," she said. Render, who worked for 15 years in the emergency medical services field in Wenatchee, Wash., chose the Inland Northwest Chapter of the American Red Cross as the charity to receive $10,000. "Because of my history in EMS, I know how much they do for people," she said. Render, who is currently not working, and her husband, John, have lived in Rathdrum for eight years. She said John deserves some of the credit for her win since he put her name into the drawing. Numerica members from throughout the region submitted their names for the drawing from May 1 to June 30 following the launch of the credit union's new brand. The firm has more than 90,000 members throughout the Inland Northwest.
