(SAN ANTONIO, TX – SEPTEMBER 29, 2020) –– The Security Service Charitable Foundation’s $2,500 donation has helped Daily Bread Ministries address increased food insecurity needs across San Antonio and surrounding areas during the Covid-19 pandemic. Funds were used to feed 4,400 families and ensured that 33 children who rely on school meals would continue receiving food throughout the summer.
Daily Bread has experienced a 40-50% increase in requests for food assistance since the onset of COVID-19. To meet this need, their team creates a needed link between businesses who throw out large amounts of food and churches whose communities are facing food insecurity.
“Daily Bread is proud to serve San Antonio and surrounding areas including Bexar, Bandera, Comal, Kendall, Kerr, Gillespie, Medina, and Uvalde counties,” said Laurin Hall, development director for Daily Bread Ministries. “But ultimately, it is how we work together as a community to heal and care for those in need that speaks to our success. That’s why the Security Service Charitable Foundation donation is so important. Their efforts are making a direct impact on feeding thousands.”
Last year, approximately 4.4 million pounds of food were delivered to those in need, helping about 60,000 individuals. During the summer months, close to 5,000 food-insecure children were provided with a steady supply to replace the meals they rely on during the school year.
“Daily Bread Ministries’ food distribution programs provide critically needed comfort and security,” said Brandy Ralston-Lint, senior vice president of corporate communications for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We are honored and humbled to be able to help our neighbors in need.”
