DSCN9732Edwardsville, Illinois Scott Credit Union recently presented a $1,000 check to become a Touchdown Club Sponsor of the Mascoutah Little Indians Youth Football Program. Scott Credit Union Community Relations Representative Jennifer Riebold presented the check to Little Indians Youth Football representatives recently at the local Scott Credit Union location. Mascoutah Little Indians is a youth football and cheerleading program that teaches the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play to children between the ages of four and 14.The organization promotes physical, mental, and moral development by providing a program that teaches children the proper techniques to safely excel at football and cheerleading. The Little Indians organization is committed to giving children in the community the opportunity to participate in football and cheer even if they are unable to cover the cost due to financial difficulties. In 2012, the organization was able to provide financial assistance to 12 children in the program through the generous donations of sponsors. The 2012 season was the first year the organization offered scholarship opportunities and they hope to expand on the program this season. The Little Indians Scholarship Fund also provides college scholarships opportunities to Mascoutah Little Indians Alumni. The Little Indians Youth Football Program plays in Scheve Park and anticipates hosting 40 or more home games this year. The local Program competes in the Southwestern Illinois Youth Football Conference. The Mascoutah Little Indians organization was selected as the winner of the 2011 Illinois Governors Hometown Award for making a difference in Illinois by creating a positive environment in which businesses and families want to live and work. "This is another great opportunity for us to support our community and the people who live here," Riebold said. "It is our way of showing our support to the community of Mascoutah and this program." "Credit unions are really about helping people and this is a perfect way for us to take that even a step further," she added. Scott Credit Union has made giving back to its communities a major priority. The local credit union contributed about $275,000 and its employees volunteered over 2,300 hours to a variety of local civic efforts throughout the region in 2012. "We realize that without our members and the communities in which we serve, we would not exist as a financial alternative," Riebold noted. "Supporting our communities is very important to us." The credit union has increased its community involvement in the past few years while also increasing its efforts to educate consumers of the value of doing their financial business with a not-for-profit credit union. "We really want people in the area to know more about the value of doing business with a credit union," she added. "That is why we have really focused our time on educating area residents about Scott Credit Union. One of the big ways weve done that is through our community involvement." "In times like these, people are really looking for ways to reduce expenses and save money," Riebold noted. "We are a great alternative that helps them to do that."
