Saint Louis, MO– September 24, 2020 - The Arnold Food Pantry received funding for a new walk-in freezer thanks to support from four local credit unions serving the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan Area: Arsenal Credit Union, Century Credit Union, First Community Credit Union and Together Credit Union.

The new walk-in freezer replaces a malfunctioning, older version, helping the Arnold Food Pantry store nutritious perishables at food-safe temperatures.

“We are very grateful for the donation and support of credit unions in our community,” said Ed Fitzhenry, Executive Director of Arnold Food Pantry. “Our community is experiencing an increased need for food assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic, and having a new, operational walk-in freezer is instrumental to the success of our operations.”

For the past 30 years, the Arnold Food Pantry has helped alleviate hunger by providing supplemental food to individuals and families in need. Additionally, the pantry distributes perishable and non-perishable food items to neighboring pantries, expanding its outreach circle.

“Hunger is a pronounced, long-term problem for our community, and both the cause and consequence of long-term physical and mental health issues. By providing consistent access to fruits, vegetables, eggs, and meat, we help give our recipients the essential vitamins and minerals they would otherwise lack,” added Fitzhenry.

Currently, the Arnold Food Pantry aids 600+ individuals and families in need each month. It also distributes household necessities, school supplies, toiletries and other essentials within the community. During normal operation hours, on-site representatives help those in need by sharing information on nutrition and meal planning, as well as performing high-level health assessments.

“It’s a pleasure to be a part of a great collaboration resulting in a terrific asset for a neighbor that does so much for the community we all serve,” shared credit union representatives in a joint statement.
