Credit Union Partners with School District for Financial Literacy

amery wi Amery High School students and staff will soon have a new, interactive financial program, a credit union office, right on their campus. WESTconsin Credit Union was recently approved by the Amery School Districts Board of Education to provide a fully-functioning financial office that will serve high school students and staff. Two proposals were reviewed by the Board and the decision was made to move forward with WESTconsin.
"It is with great pride that Amery School District is entering into a financial literacy partnership with WESTconsin Credit Union," comments High School Principal, Shawn Doerfler.�"Central to our shared interest in financial literacy is the grand opening of a WESTconsin Credit Union office on campus.�Our two institutions are forging a relationship which will arm Amery students with the financial literacy tools necessary for their success in high school and well beyond."

The WESTconsin Amery High School Office is scheduled to open in late August. Operational hours will be during specified lunch periods and the location will be within the high schools commons area. The credit union will be staffed with student tellers who will be supervised by a local WESTconsin employee. Students and staff will have immediate access to financial resources, information and products. Wisconsin schools are becoming more involved in teaching financial issues to their students before they graduate, and are including hands-on activities into their curriculums. Amery joins River Falls, Menomonie, New Richmond and Hudson as the fifth high school site WESTconsin operates.
WESTconsin Credit Union has been serving members since 1939, and membership is open to anyone who lives or works in the Wisconsin counties of Barron, Buffalo, Burnett, Chippewa, Clark, Dunn, Eau Claire, Jackson, Pepin, Pierce, Polk, Rusk, St. Croix, Sawyer, Taylor, Trempealeau, and Washburn, or the Minnesota counties of Anoka, Chisago, Dakota, Goodhue, Isanti, Ramsey, Wabasha, and Washington, with a $5 minimum deposit in a Membership Savings Account. Credit unions are financial institutions owned by their accountholders, and member funds are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to at least $250,000.
