Jeanne DArc Credit Union Awards $2,020 to Local Nonprofit to Help Families in Need
September 4, 2020
We share a passion for our members and community: that’s our common thread.
LOWELL, MA – Project Home Again is the winner of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union’s National Nonprofit Day Campaign. The organization received a $2,020 donation as the winning prize.
Project Home Again (PHA), located in Andover, Massachusetts, is a locally operated nonprofit organization that provides new and gently used household goods, furniture, and appliances to low-income families in need. Their mission is to provide comfort and restore dignity to others. They do this with help from donations and partnering social service agencies within Northeastern Massachusetts.
Founded by Nancy Kanell in 2003, PHA has been invested in the community for over 17 years by providing essential household items to those in need. Even now, amidst the COVID-19 shelter-in-place orders and social distancing, PHA has been hard at work to transform people’s lives.
“With this generous donation of $2,020, we will be able to help many families in the community finally have the furniture and household goods they need so they can feel at home during these unsettling times,” said Kanell. “We give beds to sleep on, a kitchen table to eat on, dressers to put clothes away, couches, pots and pans, sheets, towels, and dishes. The families we serve are always in need of the basic comforts of home.”
While currently serving hundreds of people each year, the organization plans to double the families they can reach going forward. This year PHA’s services are even more crucial for families as they make drastic changes to remain safe and healthy. On September 1st, PHA re-opened their warehouse in Lawrence, which helps the day-to-day operations for their storefront location in Andover and will help the organization reach its goals.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to award PHA with this donation. They are needed now more now than ever before, and they are truly an asset to our community,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. “They have helped thousands of families over the years, and we are happy to support their mission during these difficult times.”
Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union ran the Nonprofit Day Campaign from July 27th through August 8th as a way to recognize National Nonprofit Day, which was celebrated across the country on Saturday, August 17th. Community members nominated their favorite local 501(c)(3) nonprofits for the chance to win a $2,020 donation. The Credit Union received 242 nominations in for this year’s campaign.
