MSGCU Awarding $45,000 in Grants to Local Teachers
September 3, 2020
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI (September 2, 2020) — Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) is pleased to announce that their popular Classroom Cash Grants program, now in its 15th year, is now accepting grant proposals from local teachers. Through the program, MSGCU has funded hundreds of important learning experiences in classrooms across Metro Detroit.
The program starts with teachers submitting their project ideas and finishes with a public vote in October. The projects receiving the most votes receive the grants.
After a challenging year for the community and for teachers in particular, MSGCU is honored to help educators as they innovate their lesson plans for students. Teachers are invited to submit grant proposals for up to $750 through October 2. In total, the 2020 Classroom Cash Grants program will award $45,000 in grants.
During the voting period from October 13-23, students, parents, colleagues, and members of the school and local community can show their support by voting for their favorite projects through the online voting process on www.classroomcash.org.
The MSGCU Classroom Cash Grants program is open to all teachers that reside or work in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Teachers can be educators serving in public, private, parochial or charter schools. Previous Classroom Cash Grant winners and entrants may also reapply.
“Teachers have a profound impact on the lives of students and the community in which we live,” Peter Gates, MSGCU President/CEO, said. “As a Credit Union founded by teachers, we are excited to be able to provide funding for materials, equipment and other resources necessary to carry out educational projects that would otherwise not be covered by a school’s budget. With Classroom Cash Grants, we can help make these essential projects a reality for teachers and their students.”
The MSGCU Classroom Cash Grants program was launched in 2005. To date, more than 900 educators have been awarded more than $480,000 in grants.
Recipients must either be a member of MSGCU or become a member of MSGCU before receipt of the grant. Teachers can also take advantage of other MSGCU programs that include loans designed for classroom purchases, a variety of scholarships, and financial literacy programs designed to meet curriculum needs.
