MIDLAND, MICHIGAN, September 1, 2020 – At the fifth annual Garber Chevrolet Midland “Stuff the Bus” event to collect critical supplies for early childhood programs throughout Midland County, Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union (dcecu.org) contributed $1,800 in school supplies – including binders, pencils, pens, crayons, highlighters, paper, glue sticks, markers, dry-erase markers and tape – and individually wrapped snacks purchased by the credit union for the donation drive.

Credit union representatives delivered DCECU’s donations to Garber during the Aug. 21 event, which was organized to benefit Midland County’s Great Start Readiness Program (GSRP), Head Start and Early Childhood Special Education – programs offered by the Midland County Educational Service Agency in collaboration with many early childhood partners.

In all, the Garber event collected more than 1,200 items: more than 60 backpacks; more than 200 food items; several hygiene products; and more than 1,000 school supplies, such as markers, crayons, colored pencils and rulers. Gift cards and cash donations totaling $750 also were collected.

The donations will support 30 classrooms in 10 locations. All donated nonperishable food items were taken to the Longview Early Childhood Center’s food pantry for distribution to Midland County families.

“We are very grateful for the donations of school supplies, monetary donations and food for our students,” said GSRP Longview Early Childhood Center Director and Teacher Lori Kaylor. “Thank you for your generous support to our preschool programs!”

In addition to Garber and the Midland County ESA, partners for the donation drive were DCECU, DuPont and 94.5 The Moose (WCEN-FM).
