Credit Union Supports Community in a Big Way
July 17, 2013
The Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce has announced that Sussex County Federal Credit Union will serve as a $5,000 Tidal Wave for the 2013 Annual Sandcastle Contest, Annual Spring & Fall Sidewalk Sale, and the Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddlers Festival.
Sussex County Federal Credit Union has been serving the local community for more than 54 years. As a full-service financial cooperative, members take great pride in their member-owners and allow their suggestions and ideas to be a strong consideration when strategizing organization goals.
As a member-owned, not-for-profit, SCFCU develops products, services and programs based on the needs and wants of their members. In addition, SCFCU has many exceptional, tenured employees who take great satisfaction in fulfilling the credit union mission.
To fulfill the philosophy of People Helping People, SCFCU is dedicated to supporting organizations that give back to the needs of families within the local community. For example, Sussex County Federal Credit Union is committed to providing Delmarva families with financial education and resources designed to help them save money, reduce debt and ease financial stress. Students, in particular have been on the receiving end of the support and financial literacy offered by SCFCU. SCFCU not only offers financial literacy lesson plans and hand-outs to teachers and their students, but performs interactive classroom presentations.
Through the SCFCU Foundation they are able to support programs aimed at improving the lives of disadvantaged children. SCFCU also focuses its efforts on helping families, as evident in the 2012 First Family Financial Makeover program, in which one family received guidance on reducing debt and reaching their financial goals, allowing them to refinance and consolidate their mortgage, lines of credit and credit cards, to reduce their existing loan payments by 25.44 percent, in addition to growing a zero balance to $1,800-plus in three savings accounts allocated for retirement, holidays and emergencies, in just 10 months.
The premier credit union of Sussex County also dedicates a large amount of effort to sponsoring and supporting local organizations that directly impact the lives of those within many communities, such as the Celebration of Hope fundraiser for Nanticoke Cancer Care Center, Girls Night Out to Support the DBCC, local Little Leagues, Operation We Care and now the chambers Annual Sandcastle and Sea Witch Halloween & Fiddlers Festival, just to name a few.
