SAN DIEGO, Calif., (July 28, 2020)--San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), One of Southern California’s largest credit unions has been providing needed financial education resources through its Financial Wellness Wednesdays (FWW) presentations via webinar since March 2020. To date, SDCCU has held nearly 60 complimentary FWW webinars for the community to over 1,200 attendees, in addition to over 25 webinars for our local corporate partners and over 300 of their employees. The webinars began as a safe alternative to regular in-person seminars due to COVID-19. Now in the fourth month of webinars, they continue to be well attended each week with positive feedback from attendees and requests for additional webinars. Due to this, SDCCU will continue to offer this valuable free resource to members and the community.
Since the pandemic, the need and demand for financial counseling and education has only increased. According to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, 71 percent of households face difficulty saving because of expenses they didn’t plan for and 50 percent of Americans struggle to make ends meet after a financial shock. Unfortunately, this pandemic, could be the cause of a financial shock for some due to the closures of non-essential businesses. Additionally, 61 percent of Americans do not have a budget according to Experian. SDCCU is committed to helping change these statistics through financial education.
SDCCU offers more than a dozen different FWW webinar topics that include something for every stage of life including, but not limited to; Building a Better Budget, The Psychology of Spending, 30 Ways to Trim Your Budget, Teens and Money, The Keys to Homeownership and Rebuilding after a Financial Crisis. Based on attendee feedback, SDCCU recently added four new topics: Current Scams and How to Protect Your Finances, Millennial’s Guide to Savings, Elder Financial Fraud Awareness, and SDCCU’s Biz Kid$ to help teach kids about money and business. Each hour-long webinar provides tips, examples, resources and handouts for the attendee to download and use on their own. SDCCU also hosts special webinars presented by industry experts on topics such as home buying, cybersecurity and investment services. Cybersecurity Expert Jim Stickley recently presented on the Latest Security Threats and COVID-19 Scams. The recorded webinar can be accessed at sdccu.com/knowledge.
FWW webinar topics rotate weekly. The current schedule is located at sdccu.com/fww.
