(Somerville, MA) July 28, 2020 - Naveo Credit Union’s Scholarship Committee awarded three scholarships of $1,500 each to local students attending a college or university this fall. Scholarship recipients for the 2020-2021 school year were Liana Tarte of Cambridge, Richard John McNamara of Wilmington and Ashley Cadet of Everett.  Tarte will be attending Loyola University of New Orleans where she will study Biology/Pre-health, McNamara will be attending Bowdoin College to study Mathematics and Cadet will attend College of the Holy Cross to study Psychology.

Scholarship recipients were anonymously selected based on financial need, scholastic merit as well as community and school involvement. Normally recipients would be honored and celebrated at Naveo’s Annual Meeting, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, recipients were celebrated electronically through social media. Naveo hopes to celebrate scholarship recipients with their families in a physically distanced ceremony in the near future.

“Naveo Credit Union is proud to present the Carlos Faria & Victor Da Silva Memorial Scholarship awards for 2020. At Naveo, we value the importance of a quality education being instrumental in charting the journey of a person’s life towards their goals and dreams. We are proud to help support those goals and dreams by further presenting the Carlos Faria & Victor Da Silva Memorial Scholarship awards to our finalists. On behalf of Naveo and the Scholarship Committee, I would like to thank everyone for their involvement and participation in continuing this honored tradition. We wish all of the applicants and recipients a successful and wonderful journey ahead,” commented Paul Ferreira, scholarship committee chair.

Named after former board members for their dedication to education, the Carlos Faria and Victor Da Silva Memorial Scholarship Fund has been a part of the Credit Union since the 1980’s.
