SAN DIEGO, Calif., (July 2, 2020) -- San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of Southern California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, partnered with the San Diego Blood Bank to host a blood drive at four SDCCU locations throughout San Diego county, collecting 121 pints of much-needed blood, which will help save the lives of over 360 people.

The blood drive comes at a time where the blood inventory is critically low heading in to the busy summer season. Summer in general is a difficult time for blood centers because the demand for blood often increases while donations tend to be low. This year has been particularly challenging as the number of mobile drives has been drastically lower than average during the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put additional strain on the already stretched on-hand supply.

“SDCCU is proud to partner with the San Diego Blood Bank to help save lives,” said Teresa Campbell, SDCCU President and CEO. “We are grateful to all those that came out and donated, as your support truly makes a difference in the lives of people who need blood and rely on our support of the San Diego Blood Bank.”

More than 30 hospitals regularly rely on the San Diego Blood Bank every day. With a shelf life of just 42 days, the constant need for new donations is critical. To learn more about the San Diego Blood Bank or for more information, visit www.sandiegobloodbank.org.
