Credit Unions Sponsor 4 Educators at Financial Literacy Training

MADISON, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Four educators who attended the National Institute of Financial and Economic Literacy (NIFEL) training June 24-28 were sponsored by credit unions. The four were among 21 participants in the week-long NIFEL training conducted at Edgewood College in Madison. Pictured, left to right, are: Anna D'Amelio, Madison La Follette High School, sponsored by Summit Credit Union of Madison; Christine Pumilia, Janesville School District, sponsored by Blackhawk Community Credit Union of Janesville; Sarah Van Berkum, Janesville Craig High School, sponsored by Blackhawk Community Credit Union of Janesville; and Aaron Knapp, UW-La Crosse, sponsored by Altra Federal Credit Union of La Crosse. The training module, "Paychecks, Financial Contracts and Entrepreneurship," equipped the educators with teaching skills on topics such as renting and home buying, education and retirement planning, employees benefits and taxes, and starting your own business. The Department of Financial Institutions' Office of Financial Literacy coordinates the annual NIFEL training with Edgewood College. The NIFEL training is now in its 13th year and has provided personal financial education training for nearly 800 educators.
