Financial Center CU & Duffy Family Fund Announce $1M Donation to COVID Response Fund
May 12, 2020
Stockton, CA – May 12, 2020 - Financial Center Credit Union (FCCU), the entire team, and the Michael Duffy Family Fund announced a $1 million donation alongside Mayor Michael Tubbs, to the Stockton Strong COVID-19 Response Fund which was launched in an effort to support Stocktonians impacted by the coronavirus.
“The Credit Union was formed by 11 county employees looking to help people — their co-workers, their friends, and their community. This donation honors our legacy serving county and city employees for over 65 years,” said Michael Duffy, CEO and President of FCCU. “We are proud to spearhead such an incredible movement through our partners at Stockton Strong to help provide immediate relief in our hometown. Our donation is going to directly benefit our neighbors, our community, and those in need,” shared Duffy.
This substantial investment to the Stockton Strong COVID-19 Response Efforts will support numerous local non-profits that have seen significant increases in request for assistance from members of our public during this pandemic. Stockton Strong is a coalition of public, private, and civic leaders collaborating to serve as a source of information and support during this crisis.
“This donation doubles the size of the money raised to the Stockton Strong Fund, and doubles the size of our efforts to help local nonprofits, serving families in need,” said Mayor Michael Tubbs. “Time and time again, when this community needs help, Michael Duffy, his family, and Financial Center Credit Union, leadership and staff answer the call.”
As part of the announcement made on April 30th, both St. Mary’s Dining Room and the Stockton Emergency Food Bank received $100,000 each. Additional donations include various amounts to the Women’s Center Youth & Family Services, Catholic Charities, Community Medical Center, and Stockton Shelter for the Homeless.
“During these difficult times we've seen an increased demand for services,” said Edward Figueroa, CEO of the St. Mary’s Dining Room in Stockton. “Today’s support of $100,000 will help us to provide additional meals for those in need.” “I am deeply grateful to the Financial Center Credit Union as a whole and the Duffy Family for responding to this time of great need in our city with generosity, compassion, and empathy for all of our neighbors,” said Lange Luntao, Executive Director Of The Reinvent Stockton, which is heading the Stockton Strong effort. “Now, more than ever, it’s important to support the nonprofits that continue to serve our most vulnerable residents.”
In addition to this donation, FCCU has developed a Loan Holiday program in hopes of alleviating financial burden for its members. Internally, they created programs to help their staff of essential workers who have been caring for members’ needs above their own during this time of crisis. And now, they have all stepped up and together made a significant donation of $1 million. FCCU is now, and always has been, a member of this community and their actions reflect their mission. Since its inception FCCU has made significant investments in philanthropic efforts throughout San Joaquin County. Giving back to the community they serve is woven into the culture of the Credit Union. Duffy presented this opportunity to the FCCU team as a way to help their community and received immediate support with a resounding yes. This donation represents a continued commitment from the entire FCCU team. They are donating, together, out of the care and concern for others in their local community.
Financial Center Credit Union (FCCU) is the largest credit union based in San Joaquin County. Formed by 11 county employees looking to help people — their co-workers, their family, and their community, FCCU was born in a decade of unbridled optimism, a post-war spirit that said all things are possible. And for over 65 years, they’ve never stopped believing that. It's in their DNA and it's what they still believe today. We are stronger together! For more information about FCCU, visit fccuburt.org.
