Santa Fe, New Mexico, April, 20, 2020 — Del Norte Credit Union (DNCU), New Mexico’s hometown financial cooperative is improving lives of northern New Mexico youth with their Banzai partnership.

According to Banzai, teachers nationwide “are scrambling to meet literacy requirements—with little to no financial help.” DNCU is helping to fill that gap by providing the necessary funding for educators to access the interactive and cutting-edge software that in today’s world, can be accessed right from home. For over 18 years, Del Norte Credit Union has supported financial literacy education for elementary, middle and high school children. This includes helping children and teens learn to save, budget, manage a checking account, understand a credit score, and improve their overall financial literacy.

To date, 122 teachers have been served and 6,500 students have been educated. The Banzai and DNCU partnership offers software focused on teaching students real-world financial literacy and shows them how to navigate adult financial dilemmas with real-life scenarios. Los Alamos High School, Aspen Elementary, Abiquiu Elementary, Capital High School, and the New Mexico School for the Deaf are just some of the eighty-one local schools that have participated.

Del Norte Credit Union invites local-area teachers to participate and sign-up by going to https://teachbanzai.com/remote/teachers. During this challenging time of at-home learning for their students, the program supplements interactive and experimental online learning—for more information visit dncu.org/home/learn/children-teens
