unitus_without_tag_WEB_300x89Portland, Ore. Unitus Community Credit Union provided local nonprofit, Financial Beginnings, with a donation of $1,800 towards their $20,000 in 20 days initiative. This donation will provide financial education programs and necessary supplemental materials to 100 youth and young adults in the Pacific Northwest.

Unitus has been a longtime supporter of Financial Beginnings, and employees have volunteered their time teaching the curriculum. When describing what it was like to teach a Financial Beginnings class, Unitus business development officer Jacque Barber stated, "After working with the students, it was rewarding to know the information we provided could make a positive difference in their financial education." Formed in 2005, and based in Portland, OR, Financial Beginnings provides multi-session courses, free of charge to students and young adults through visits to individual schools and community groups. Their goal is to help the students in their courses learn about how to make smart decisions regarding personal finance. Their $20,000 in 20 days initiative has served over 13,000 youth this year and continues to seek new resources in order to reach even more students. "As a credit union, we fully understand and embrace the importance of educating students at an early age about financial matters, especially since there is an increased access to credit, " said Aimee Berg, community marketing coordinator at Unitus, "We are delighted to be able provide support to Financial Beginnings and be part of a very important initiative."
