Capital CU Awards $8,000 in Scholarships

BISMARCK, ND – April 14, 2020 - Capital Credit Union today announced the eight recipients of its $1,000 Howard J. Snortland Scholarships.

• Shanna Bakken, Stanton, is a senior at Hazen High School. She plans to attend North Dakota State College of Science in the fall to pursue a degree in dental hygiene.

• Michaela Ficek, Bismarck, is a senior at Bismarck High School. She plans to attend the University of North Dakota in the fall to pursue a degree in political science.

• Brooke Fleming, Bismarck, is a senior at Century High School. She plans to attend the University of North Dakota in the fall to pursue a degree in business management.

• Avry Greff, Bismarck, is a senior at St. Mary's Central High School. She plans to attend North Dakota State University in the fall to pursue a degree in nursing.

• Gered Knoell, Hazen, is a senior at Hazen High School. He plans to attend Bismarck State College in the fall to pursue a career as an electrical line worker.

• Megan McCarthy, Hazen, is currently attending the University of Mary, majoring in radiologic technology.

• Morgan Salwei, Bismarck, is a senior at St. Mary's Central High School. She plans to attend the University of Mary in the fall to pursue a degree in communication sciences and disorders.

• Gabrielle Schuchard, Bismarck, is a senior at Legacy High School. She plans to attend North Dakota State University in the fall to pursue a degree in nursing.

 Since the scholarship was established in 1996, Capital Credit Union has awarded $124,500 to 130 students. It is named in honor of Howard J. Snortland and his 60 years of volunteer service to Capital Credit Union. Snortland was instrumental in helping the credit union grow from its humble roots to the thriving financial cooperative it is today. He was a relentless advocate of Capital Credit Union and the credit union industry and dedicated to educating members, elected officials and local citizens about its cooperative structure, member-centric products, personalized service and community involvement.
