IC FCUFitchburg, MA IC Federal Credit Union awarded five local college-bound students $1,000 each for their top entries to its annual scholarship essay contest. "The contest rules were simple," said Tony Emerson, president and CEO, "IC takes pride in being involved in our community, and applicants were asked to write an essay on the type of program they would endorse or create to assist the community in which they live." "It was difficult to narrow down the entries; they were all excellent!" Eligibility was limited to high school seniors enrolled in an undergraduate college degree program, and an IC Membership was required of either the applicant or their parent/guardian. Along with the essay, academic achievement and extracurricular activities were also a consideration in the overall scoring; a total of 38 applications were received. The winners are: Bethany Bourgault of Fitchburg who will be attending Syracuse University; Zachary Cote of Fitchburg who will be attending Boston College; Shamaila Khan of Leominster who will be attending Brandeis University; Rachel Proctor of Lunenburg who will be attending St. Michaels College; and Hannah Sorila of Fitchburg who will be attending Providence College. Congratulations to all scholarship recipients on a job well done!
