LEOMINSTER, MA - February 25, 2020 — Leominster Credit Union (LCU) donated 131 new blankets to area local organizations in need. The blankets were collected through the annual blanket drive. LCU employees either donated money to wear jeans on Fridays or donated blankets, our members graciously donated blankets, the Montachusett Area Rotary collected blankets and the residents of the Sunrise Senior Living Center made 19 blankets for this worthy cause.

Twenty-eight Massachusetts Credit Unions along with the Cooperative Credit Union Association participated in the 2020 Blanket Drive during the month of January.  The credit unions donated a total of 1,371 blankets to the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless and other local agencies across the state. LCU has participated in the Cooperative Credit Union Association’s initiative along with area Credit Unions since 2011.

“The generosity from members, staff, community members and board members was exceptional.  A special thanks to Lorrie Brodeur and the residents from Sunrise Senior Living Center for the blankets they made and donated to the drive. We are committed to enriching the communities we serve and we are thrilled to be able to assist so many through this blanket drive,” said John O’Brien, LCU President & CEO.

Blankets were distributed to the following area organizations: Andy’s Attics, Worcester; Ginny’s Helping Hands, Leominster; Leominster Emergency Management; Armistice Homestead for Veterans’, Leominster; Our Father’s House, Fitchburg; Sterling Fire Station; Holden Senior Center; Clinton Senior Center, Catholic Charities Women’s Recovery Center and North Star Family Services.
