PROVO, UT – February 26, 2020 – The Security Service Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation is helping people in the Utah community by donating $2,500 to Alpine House, a Utah-based non-profit transition home for people with mental illness. The donation will be used toward the purchase of a new washer and dryer set and a standing freezer.
“Residents take immense pride in being part of the home and benefit greatly from group living,” explains Robert Johns, executive director for Alpine House. “One aspect of living in the house is learning the routines of everyday life, including upkeep of the home. This generous donation allows us to purchase items needed to keep our home running today, and also help residents learn everyday life skills needed for when they move out of Alpine House.”
Currently, residents are using laundry appliances that do not work well, and are too old to be fixed adequately. The freezer will allow the home’s food budget to be stretched as bulk purchases can be made when items are on sale and stored for consumption at a later time.
“Utah has one of the highest rates of mental illness in our country,” said Ben Wiseman, senior vice president of member service—Mountain West Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We appreciate the opportunity to help support those dealing with this issue and look forward to seeing the positive effects it will have on both the individuals and the community.”
The Alpine House was established in 1963 to assist returning mental health patients from inpatient status to life in the community. It also provides a temporary home for individuals already in the community who are experiencing emotional problems of such a nature that the atmosphere of Alpine House would be beneficial. Alpine House serves 25-45 men and women each year.
