CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – February 24, 2020 – The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping supply children in foster care with basic living supplies by donating $5,000 to Beacon of Hope Foster Care and Adoption Agency, a non-profit organization that provides foster and adoptive homes to children in the Corpus Christi and South Texas regions. The donation will help purchase necessities ranging from clothing, shoes and school supplies, to diapers, baby food and formula.

“Our needs are diverse as some children in our care are newborns and others are older children who attend school,” explained Michelle Lopez, case manager for Beacon of Hope. “Families pay for all of their preparations to meet state minimum standards and our own policy before a child is placed in the home. This generous donation allows us to offset some of those costs for people who have opened their homes and lives to help these children.”

Beacon of Hope Agency works closely with its foster parents to offer individualized attention, multiple training options and support, both emotional and material. Unique compared to other child placing agencies, Beacon of Hope is small with only six employees, and works solely within the Corpus Christi and Rio Grande Valley areas. The dedicated staff bring their own insight, qualifications and personal experiences in providing quality care to foster/adopt children and families.

“Beacon of Hope provides love, care, nurturing and stability to approximately 65 children a year,” said Julie Balboa, vice president of member service—South Texas for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We are honored to provide this donation and look forward to seeing the positive effects it will have on an even greater number of foster children in the community.”

The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
