COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – February 20, 2019 – The Security Service Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation is helping people with limited financial resources live in a safe environment by donating $2,500 to Energy Resource Center, a Colorado-based nonprofit construction company focused on energy efficiency upgrades, health, and safety. The charitable donation will be used to purchase combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors for families throughout Colorado.
“Our mission is to improve home energy efficiency, conserve energy, promote health, increase comfort, and expand Coloradoans' quality of life,” said Howard Brooks, chief executive officer for Energy Resource Center. “A vital part of our work is the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. This generous donation will allow us to purchase 625 units for families.”
While the dangers of carbon monoxide are well-known, because it is odorless, many people are at risk of poisoning without a detector. Most people don't recognize the symptoms and these detectors are a cost-effective way of keeping people safe and healthy in their own homes.
“Families should feel safe in their homes,” said Derrick Aguilar, senior vice president of member service—Mountain Region for Security Service Federal Credit Union. “We appreciate the opportunity to help so many families that otherwise would not have resources for this simple life-saving device.”
Energy Resource Center was created to reduce home energy bills and increase home comfort for low-income families. Over the years, it has evolved to focus on permanent, cost-effective measures for these families. Energy Resource Center now serves 27 counties across Colorado, helping approximately 5,000 people each year. Services are free to income-qualified families.
