Colorado Springs, CO – February 14, 2020 - The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping to feed children by donating $10,000 to the Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado to support the Children’s Nutrition Initiative (CNI). The donation will fully support two schools with a total of 1,677 packs full of nutritious food. Children that are food-insecure will have 46 weeks of healthy food to take home for dinner and weekend meals.
“Care and Share believes that access to healthy food helps children grow and thrive,” said Lynne Telford, CEO for Care and Share. “This generous donation will help fill thousands of children’s empty pantries, plates, and stomachs with the nourishment they need to achieve their goals.”
The CNI program is designed to increase access to healthy food in low income areas by providing food to students when school cafeterias are not available. This approach ensures that vulnerable children and their families have consistent access to nutritious food when free or reduced-price school meals are unavailable.
“Care and Share’s CNI programs are eliminating impossible choices for families facing food insecurity,” explains Derrick Aguilar, senior vice president of member service—Mountain Region for Security Service. “Decisions between paying rent and utilities, or feeding their children are choices no one should have to make.
This type of community service is at the heart of what the Security Service Charitable Foundation sets out to support.” At Care and Share Food Bank, they believe that no one should go hungry.
