Joliet, IL - January 6, 2020 -  NuMark Credit Union has won First Place in the State and National Competitions for the 2019 Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award for their work with Northern Illinois Food Bank and our support of Veterans and their families. By working with Northern Illinois Food Bank, NuMark wants to help solve hunger in the community.

The need is great: 1 in 7 people in Northern Illinois rely on Northern Illinois Food Bank and their network of feeding services. On average our hungry neighbors visit their feeding programs 8 times per year. Northern Illinois Food Bank is able to provide $8 worth of nutritious food for every $1 they receive. There are over 120,000 Homeless Veterans within the United States with under 8,000 funded beds available. As of January 2018, Illinois had an estimated 10,643 residents experiencing homelessness on any given day, as reported by Continuums of Care to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Of that total, 804 were Veterans.

Throughout the year NuMark collected money, food items, volunteered their time, distributed food to Veterans and their families, participated in community events and shared their story -- all in the support of Northern Illinois Food Bank and this project. In addition, they have introduced a new member rewards program available to those who are Veterans or those who are serving in the active military. For every new veteran account, NuMark donates $10 to the Wreaths Across America project.

“We are honored to be recognized with a First Place Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility National Award,” says Ann Dubie, President and CEO of NuMark Credit Union. “Having attended the mobile food truck and food packing events with Northern Illinois Food Bank, I’ve seen firsthand that good that we can do. You don’t forget the faces of people that you help. I am so proud of our NuMark Family. We have all done a tremendous job to help solve hunger and support Veterans in our communities.”

“As leaders of a credit union, all of our board members are volunteers. We serve to provide financial services that improve the financial lives of our members,” says Clifford Struthers, NuMark Credit Union’s Chairman of the Board. “We are all Veterans, and we feel it is essential to serve and give back. The needs of Veterans and their families are important to us along with helping all those who are hungry. We are proud of our credit union’s efforts that have helped to make a difference.”

NuMark Credit Union wants to thank their members for their support and they look forward to continuing to make a difference and improve the lives of Veterans and those in the community.
