ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Alaska USA Foundation donated a total of $34,500 to local nonprofits in Alaska.

$10,000 was donated to Covenant House Alaska, who offers housing and support services to young people in need. They help to offer kids in crisis with immediate human needs such as food, clothing, medical attention and shelter.

$10,000 was donated to the Special Olympics to assist with funding for Camp Shriver, a place for youth with and without intellectual disabilities to learn new sports skills and improve individual sport performances. It provides education on health and wellness, leadership, advocacy and family outreach components.

$6,500 was donated to Girl Scouts of Alaska, the preeminent leadership development organization for girls. Girl Scouts offers every girl a chance to practice a lifetime of leadership, adventure and success—building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place.

$5,000 was donated Alaska CARES and $3,000 was donated to the Children’s Place. Both are services

which help children who have experienced trauma from abuse. Victim advocates, law enforcement, child protection, tribal health, forensic medicine and mental health professionals all work together in the same facility to support Alaska’s most vulnerable kids.

“Nonprofits such as these are the lifeblood of any community. They fill needs that would otherwise go unmet in many neighborhoods, and it’s a real honor for Alaska USA Foundation to help provide financial  support for their missions,” said Dan McCue, executive director of the Alaska USA Foundation.
