UW Credit Union Contributes $150,000 to United Way

MADISON, WI – November 20, 2019 – The UW Credit Union Foundation is making a $150,000 donation to United Way of Dane County’s affordable housing fund to help support their mission of creating and sustaining more affordable housing options in Dane County.  

“We believe in an individual’s right to affordable housing and fairness in being able to strive for homeownership,” said Paul Kundert, UW Credit Union CEO and president. UW Credit Union is one of the top home purchase lenders in Dane County. As a part of their commitment to creating pathways out of poverty through initiatives focused on education, income and health, United Way of Dane County created the Affordable Housing Fund to support families in the Dane County community. The fund was created in early 2018 as a long-term strategy to create affordable housing units for working families to end family homelessness.  

“We know when working families have stable housing, they are healthier, happier and more successful in school, work and life,” said Renee Moe, president & CEO, United Way of Dane County. “This investment is a game-changer for our entire community and United Way of Dane County’s work in affordable housing.”

The Affordable Housing Fund Committee, part of the United Way of Dane County Foundation, created a revolving loan fund to be part of the nance package that nonprot organizations have to build affordable housing units. The rst loan was recommended earlier this year which will allow the development company to break ground on a 44-unit apartment building on East Washington Ave and will be completed next year.

With the UW Credit Union donation, the United Way’s Affordable Housing Fund will be able to invest in additional new, affordable housing options for families in Dane County. “United Way volunteers on the Foundation Board and Affordable Housing Fund Committee are committed to investing in new, affordable housing options for families in Dane County,” said Don Bernards, Partner, Baker Tilly LLP and Chair, United Way Affordable Housing Fund Committee. “Partnerships make it happen, so we’re thrilled to have UW Credit Union as such a strong and signicant leader at the table as we grow the revolving loan fund and improve lives.”
