Saint Paul, Minnesota – At City & County Credit Union, we are driven by the mission of ‘empowering you to do more.’ To actively live out this mission, City & County Credit Union hosted Making the Greater Good Even Greater and awarded Wags & Whiskers and Our Community Food Projects $2,000 each for being a do-gooder in our community.

Making the Greater Good Even Greater is a voting contest that rewards local small businesses and non-profits for doing good things in the communities we serve. To participate in the contest, local businesses and non-profits have to be nominated by the community to compete. Once nominations are accepted, a Facebook voting contest is held to determine the winning organizations.

During the Fall 2019 Making the Greater Good Even Greater contest, 22 small businesses and 130 non-profits were nominated to compete bringing in over 8,612 total votes on City & County Credit Union’s Facebook page.

Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue of MN - Non-Profit Greater Good Winner

Formed in 2009, Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue of MN is a volunteer run animal rescue organization dedicated to saving the lives of homeless animals and educating the community on responsible pet ownership. Wags & Whiskers has no facility or shelter of their own. Instead, all animals are housed in foster homes while they await their forever homes. With this approach, the foster parents become familiar with the personalities of their foster dog or car and can use the familiarity to match the animals to appropriate homes.

“This donation will help Wags & Whiskers to continue our mission of providing the animals in our care with all the training, veterinary care and love they need while waiting for their families to find them,” stated Jill Arbogast, President of the organization. “Not only are we committed to the animals already in our care, but this money will help us save more animals in shelters both locally and across the nation.

Our Community Food Projects - Small Business Greater Good Winner

As a Minnesota woman-owned company, Our Community Food Projects (OCFP) is working toward providing equitable, affordable, and locally produced food to improve health and well-being in the Eastern Metro. Since its inception in 2010, OCFP has started multiple community food programs, including Our Community Kitchen in Stillwater, Cimarron Farm in Lake Elmo, and Unity Farm in Grant. All programs benefit the local food needs of the surrounding neighborhoods.

Ann DeLaVergne, Owner and Founder of OCFP, explained, “Thank you City & County for the Greater Good award, and thank you to all the family and friends who voted. The $2,000 donation will be used to add a vegetable washing station at Unity Farm, where we just finished a hoop house for crop season extension and growing culturally specific crops for market sales.”
