Credit Union Holds FREE Shred Day
June 25, 2013
Somerville, MA - CPCU Credit Union held a free Spring Shred Day for its members on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at its Somerville branch to minimize member exposure identity theft. CPCU held the shred event to provide members with an opportunity to properly destroy personal and confidential documents that may otherwise leave them vulnerable to identity theft.
During the three-hour span, over fifty members stopped by to properly shred their confidential documents on-site, free of charge. Pamphlets on how to further protect members from identity theft were also available. The event proved successful when numerous members inquired about further shred day dates. CPCU has plans to host another shred day sometime this fall.
CPCU held the free shred day in conjunction with an identity theft protection workshop which highlighted the importance of keeping non-public information secure and disposing of it safely. The workshops coordinator reiterated that properly shredding personal documents is the easiest and best way to safeguard their identity.
"Identity Theft is one of the fastest growing crimes of the 21st century, especially as the criminals can easily remain invisible. It is therefore vital for each person to take steps to protect their personal information and not put sensitive documents into the regular trash, but shred them," commented Judy Murdoch, Operations Manager at CPCU Credit Union.
