North Dakota - On October 17, 2019, credit union members around the world celebrated International Credit Union Day®, an annual event to commemorate the credit union movement’s impact and achievements. In honor of this special day, First Community Credit Union gave back to local communities in a variety of ways.

For over 70 years, International Credit Union Day has been celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October. Joining in the celebration, FCCU staff served a free lunch at local Sanford Children’s Hospitals in Bismarck and Fargo for the fourth consecutive year. This year, over 200 staff members and families were provided lunch.

With the theme of “Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union” employees in several other towns delivered baked goods, waters and treat bags filled with goodies and positive information about the credit union difference. These bags were given to farmers, workers at local elevators, local businesses, and were hidden around several towns for a fun scavenger hunt.

"We’ve been giving back and serving meals at the Sanford Children’s Hospital’s for several years now and each year it becomes more and more clear the importance of giving back to our local communities,” says Susan Long Swen, Event & Community Engagement Specialist. “It was such a wonderful opportunity to carry out the theme of ‘Open Your Eyes to a Credit Union’, all while giving back to our communities and teaching those around us about the credit union difference.”

During its 80-year history, First Community Credit Union has grown to be North Dakota’s largest credit union with 250 employees and 28 branches, with a field of membership that covers over half of the state.
