Becky Bergin RedCross0348Community First Credit Union in Northeastern Wisconsin joined forces with a five-station radio group to raise $5,164 on May 24-25 for American Red Cross disaster relief efforts in tornado-ravaged Oklahoma. Operation Broadcast Hope took place over 13 hours after Woodward Radio Group approached Community First CU about doing live remote broadcasts from several credit union branches to generate donations after the May 20 tornado that killed 24. A Red Cross official said the funds would support immediate needs such as food, shelter, clothing, medication replacement and emotional support. "We are grateful to our member/owners and others who stopped by Community First to donate to Operation Broadcast Hope," said Catherine Tierney, president/ceo, Community First. "We were pleased to partner with Woodward Radio Group and the American Red Cross to assist victims of the Oklahoma tornado." "We had quite a few members making donations," said Cindy Pierce, a Community First branch manager in Appleton. "It kind of hit home with a lot of people." Community First Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative serving more than 100,000 member/owners in Northeastern Wisconsin. The credit union has more than $1.8 billion in assets and currently operates 20 full-service branches and eight non-traditional branches in schools, assisted living facilities and the King Veterans Home in Waupaca.
