CaptureEAST LANSING, MI (June 11, 2013) MSU Federal Credit Union was proud to partner with the Sparrow Childrens Center and support children in the local community through a toy drive in its Greater Lansing area branches. More than 350 toys and items were donated to the Childrens Center playroom at Sparrow Hospital, a resource for young patients and their families to experience a home away from home when going to Sparrow to receive care. The Childrens Center playroom is used to help children recover from sickness or injury through play, education, and emotional support. MSUFCU also presented $20,000 to the Sparrow Childrens Center as the key sponsor of the 25th annual Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals Telethon (CMNH). The Telethon aired on television from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Friday, May 31 and 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, and fourteen MSUFCU employees volunteered their time to assist in taking calls. Nearly $1 million was raised through the CMNH partnership, culminating with the weekend Telethon. All donations will help Sparrow to care for local children in the mid-Michigan area by strengthening programs and facilities that offer young patients the best possible care, regardless of families abilities to pay for the services. Patrick McPharlin, MSUFCU President and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "Giving back to the community is a core value at MSU Federal Credit Union. We were honored to partner with the Sparrow Childrens Center, Childrens Miracle Network, and our members this year by donating toys and items that will enhance the playroom facilities and help make a difference in the lives of children receiving care at Sparrow."MSU Federal Credit Union, the worlds largest university-based credit union, offers a full range of personal- and business-related financial services to Michigan State University and Oakland University faculty, staff, students, alumni association members, and their families worldwide in addition to a variety of select employee groups. Founded in 1937 by a few MSU professors and employees, MSUFCU now has twelve branches, over 175,000 members, more than $2.4 billion in assets, and over 515 employees.
