Hanscom AFB, MA (September 27, 2019) – On September 23, 2019, the Hanscom Federal Credit Union Charitable Foundation held its 5th Annual Alan M. Hart Memorial Charity Golf Classic at Red Tail Golf Club in Devens, MA. The Classic raised $150,000, part of the Foundation’s $750,000 commitment to support Home Base over the next five years. Home Base is a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Program dedicated to healing the invisible wounds of war for veterans, service members, and their families through world-class clinical care, wellness, education, and research.
“I did have the privilege of going to visit Home Base just a few months ago,” said U.S. Representative Lori Trahan, who represents Massachusetts’ 3rd district. “It was eye-opening the way that Home Base has worked to bring the dignity of care and treatment to our veterans. I thank Hanscom Federal Credit Union for their support of Home Base.”
Paul Marotta, Chairman of Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation, Inc. and Chairman Emeritus of Hanscom Federal Credit Union, presented the check to Brigadier General (ret.) Jack Hammond, Executive Director of Home Base, who offered a few words describing the work of his organization. He said, “We focus not only on our veterans, but military family members and a subset we’re deeply concerned with are the surviving family members of our fallen troops. Within that group are family members who’ve lost someone to suicide.” Brig. Gen. Hammond made the program’s mission abundantly clear when he stated, “It’s bad enough to lose a veteran overseas, but if they can survive the crucible of combat, and not survive life here at home, that’s a tragedy.”
The Classic was attended by over 161 golfers and guests, and featured special guests Brig. Gen. Jack Hammond; Mr. Marotta; David Sprague, President & CEO of Hanscom Federal Credit Union; U.S. Congresswoman Lori Trahan; and members of the Boards of Directors from Hanscom FCU and Hanscom FCU Charitable Foundation.
