Harrisburg, PA (September 24, 2019) - A total of $10,398.42 was raised to support the American Heart Association during the inaugural employee volleyball tournament at PSECU, Pennsylvania’s anytime anywhere digital credit union, on September 11.

“Not only did our employees have a great time on the court, but through the employee volleyball tournament, we were able to come together - with teamwork and collaboration - to raise a significant amount of money for an organization that has a truly positive impact on the lives of our members, our fellow employees, and the greater community – the American Heart Association,” said PSECU President George Rudolph, who launched planning of the tournament initiative shortly after taking on his new role at the credit union earlier this year. “This is an outstanding example of the credit union ‘People Helping People’ philosophy being put into action, and I’m so proud of what all of our employees have accomplished.”

During the event, ten staff teams comprised of 7-8 members each, battled for the tournament’s winning spot. The teams were also encouraged to challenge one another for the equally prestigious title of top fundraiser. Spurred by innovation, they sold colorful team support bracelets to coworkers, rented a dunk tank and recruited credit union leadership to take shifts being soaked, and even created a pay-to-sit VIP viewing area with refreshments, all with the aim of bringing in the largest amount of money to benefit the American Heart Association.

“The employees of PSECU have always been enthusiastic supporters of our Heart Walks, but we were so impressed with how they came together for this volleyball tournament,” said American Heart Association of the Capital Region Executive Director Marsha Jackson. “A little friendly competition around a heart-healthy activity gave everyone at the company an opportunity to get involved in supporting the cause, whether they were playing or just cheering on their colleagues. It really showed PSECU’s commitment to the engagement and health of its employees and the community.”

Throughout the day, nearly all of the 650+ employees at PSECU’s Harrisburg, PA headquarters contributed to the fundraising efforts. They also enjoyed other fun events like Jenga, cornhole, basket auctions, basketball, bocce ball, and a heart healthy lunch, which contributed to the celebration and collaborative atmosphere.

Another 115 employees at PSECU’s offices in State College and Indiana, PA also played an important role in raising funds for the American Heart Association. By holding their own cornhole tournament events on August 14 and 15, respectively, they raised an additional $1,005.

“I’d like to thank our amazing, dedicated employees for all they do to serve our members. They really go above and beyond, and that’s why PSECU is Banking on a Difference,” Rudolph added.

Opened in 1934, PSECU was founded by 22 ordinary people who pooled $90 and made an extraordinary commitment to each other: To create a financial institution where collective resources benefit all members. Today, PSECU continues that legacy as a leading full-service credit union managing more than $5.5 billion in assets and offering its over 450,000 members convenient anytime, anywhere digital banking options. PSECU was named a 2019 Best-In-State Credit Union by Forbes Magazine. For more information about PSECU, visit psecu.com.
