RAPID CITY, S.D. – Working to improve the lives of children and families in their community, employees at Black Hills Federal Credit Union raised $4,025 during a recent Community Action Team project for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospital at Regional Health in Rapid City.

As part of their efforts, employees sold more than 785 ducks during the 30th Annual Great Black Hills Duck Race, a community-wide fundraising event to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. They also held a special fundraiser and jeans day for the organization, which helps provide vital care and medical equipment for ill and injured children throughout the Black Hills.

“At BHFCU, we work hard to live our mission - “We Improve Lives” – every day,” said Kitty Gust, co-chair of BHFCU Community Action Team project to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network. “I’m extremely proud of our staff and the time and energy they’ve put into improving the lives of local children and families in our community.”

Additionally, in honor of the 30 anniversary of the Great Black Hills Duck Race, BHFCU employee Amelia Thompson created a hand-made quilt featuring t-shirts from every Duck Race. BHFCU partnered with the Regional Health Foundation to raffle off the quilt as part of an additional fundraiser for the organization.

This August, BHFCU’s employees and members are participating in Community Action Team projects to benefit the Pierre Area Referral Services, the Troops Care Package Project and more.

With support from its members, BHFCU’s employee-led Community Action Team contributes to and volunteers with more than 60 local, charitable organizations and causes through the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, every year. You can get involved with and stay up-to-date on all of BHFCU’s projects by following BHFCU on Facebook.
