Hopewell FCU Awards $1,000 Scholarship to Local High School Graduate

HEATH/NEWARK/JOHNSTOWN, OH —Hopewell Federal Credit Union presented the winner of its annual $1000 scholarship on July 24th during its monthly Board of Directors meeting.  This distinguished honor was awarded to, Greta Buckenberger.  Buckenberger, a recent graduate from Utica High School, will depart in the fall to attend Taylor University in Upland, IN. She is shown in the photo above with her family.     

Buckenberger excels both academically and personally and has created a strong presence in the community.  Below are just a few of her accolades. 

  • She is active – Participating in Student Government, Cross Country, Track and Field, Show Choir, Concert Choir, Drama Club, Spanish Club, Quiz Bowl, Youth Group at Cornerstone Church, 4-H Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes
  • She is a volunteer – Donating her time as a Children’s Ministry Teacher, at the Look-Up Center and at Utica High School Blood Drives and for the Hartford Fair Junior Fair Board
  • She is intelligent – Serving as a member of the National Honor Society and earning at 4.225 Grade Point Average

Applicants were asked to pick one of the five fundamentals of credit unions and use it to convince her best friend why it is better to use a credit union than any other kind of financial institution.  Though a strong field of applicants came forward with submissions, Ms. Buckenberger was a standout and chosen as the 2019 Hopewell Federal Scholarship winner.
