Wichita, KAN –   Skyward Credit Union hosted Bite of Reality, a youth financial workshop on June 29, 2019. Over 40 high school students, ages 16 to 18 years old, signed up for the event.

The Bite of Reality program integrates a mobile app to simulate real-world financial realities to teens. Attendees are given a fictional occupation, salary, spouse and family, student loan debt, credit card debt, and medical insurance payments. Attendees had to learn to manage their finances to produce a positive financial outcome. Classroom instruction was also included to cover financial basics and budgeting.  A pizza party wrapped up the event.

“This was a fun and educational experience for the students in our community, as well as for the staff volunteers,” says Ashley Haner, Skyward’s Training Specialist. “We’re happy to help educate the next generation of consumers and savers in such an entertaining way.”
