Westerly Community CU Awards $4,500 in Scholarships

Westerly, RI - Westerly Community Credit Union recently awarded four $1000 scholarships to local students of Westerly and Chariho High School. They also sponsored a Chariho High School student who was awarded a $500 Cooperative Credit Union scholarship.
Helena Hall-Thomsen of Westerly, was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union- Joseph N. Cugini Scholarship. The Joseph N. Cugini Scholarship is named on behalf of the Credit Union’s former president, CEO and Chairman of the Board, Joseph Cugini. Cugini retired in 2000 after 41 years of service to the Credit Union. Helena will be attending John Hopkins University this fall to study Biomedical Engineering.
Adrianna Turano of Westerly, was awarded the Westerly Community Credit Union- Robert M. Bewlay Memorial Scholarship. The Robert M. Bewlay Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the Credit Union’s former Vice President, Robert M. Bewlay, for his 35 years of dedication and service to the Westerly Community Credit Union. Turano will be attending the University of Rhode Island in the fall to study Computer and Political Science.
Faith Bailey of Westerly and Shea Jackson of Wood River Junction, were each awarded a Westerly Community Credit Union College Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a high school graduate attending a four-year college or university. This fall, Faith will be attending the Florida Atlantic University to study Education and Shea will be studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Rhode Island.
Claire Fox of Charlestown, was awarded the Cooperative Credit Union Scholarship. This scholarship is sponsored by the Westerly Community Credit Union which is one of eleven participating credit unions in Rhode Island. Claire will be studying Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Carolina.
