BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA – Pelican State Credit Union hosted a free Financial Wellness Workshop introducing the unique topic of Budgeting for Baby at the Baton Rouge Main Library on May 21, 2019. 47 guests and their children gathered for this first-time presentation.

The workshop began with a shower game called “What’s in Your Purse?” where guests earned points for different items they had with them, and winners received gift packs that included a Pelican State of Mind baby bib. In addition to game prizes, “Parent Survival Kit” gift baskets and a Pack ’N Play were given away as door prizes.

Two Nationally Certified Credit Counselors gave the presentation together, keeping things interesting and offering different perspectives. Guests learned about expenses that come with a growing family, gifts for kids that are priceless, utilizing their networks, and how potty training children early can save hundreds of dollars.

Guests were treated to a free jambalaya dinner and salad from Jambalaya Shoppe, and everyone had a chance to meet Pelican’s Mid City and Financial Outreach teams. Three partner organizations set up booths at the workshop as a resource for guests with informational materials and fun giveaways: Partners for Family Health, Open Health Care Clinic, and Family Road Healthy Start.

Every member of Pelican has access to meet personally with one of Pelican’s Nationally Certified Credit Counselors to share their unique financial journey. Through Pelican’s Financial Wellness Program, members can obtain the resources needed to make healthy financial decisions and better their current situations.
