Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas Awards $10,000 in Scholarships

Bismarck, ND - The Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas (CUFD) is thrilled to announce that twenty
$500 Dakotas’ Credit Union Financial Scholarships were just awarded to the following North Dakota and South Dakota recipients. 

The recipients for North Dakota are:

  • Breanna Olson of Forbes, ND is a recent high school graduate and a memberof Dakota Plains CU.

  • Tyra Steinwand of Edgeley, ND is a current college student and is a member of Dakota Plains Credit Union.

  • Emily Scheresky of Washburn, ND is a recent high school graduate and is a member of Dakota West CU.

  • Elyse Paulson of Bowman, ND is a recent high school graduate and is a member of Dakota West CU. 

  • Philip Hagen of Kulm, ND is a recent high school graduate and is a member of Hometown Credit Union.

  • Megan McCarthy of Hazen, ND is a recent high school graduate and is a member of Capital CU. 

  • Chesnea Heyd of LaMoure, ND is a recent high school graduate and is a member of LaMoure CU.

  • Ana Mart of LaMoure, ND is a recent high school graduate and is a member of LaMoure CU. 

  • Jacob Corcoran of Fargo, ND is a recent high school graduate and is a member of Postal Family FCU. 

  • Sydnee Steele of Beach, ND is a recent high school graduate and is a member of Western Cooperative CU. 

The recipients for South Dakota are:

  • Megan Streier of Aberdeen, SD is a recent high school graduate and is a member of Aberdeen FCU. 

  • Samantha Menzia of Conde, SD is a current college student and is a member of Aberdeen FCU. 

  • Michelle Goens of Watertown, SD is a current college student and is a member of Avanti FCU.

  • Jamie Holforty of Huron, SD is a recent high school graduate and is a member of Dakotaland FCU & Huron Area Education FCU.

  • Matthew Katz of Huron, SD is a recent high school graduate and is a member of Dakotaland FCU. 

  • Evan Groce of Madison, SD is a recent high school graduate and is a member of East River FCU. 

  • Lacee Fedeler of Madison, SD is a current college student and is a member of East River FCU. 

  • Parker Broer of Huron, SD is a recent high school graduate and is a member of M-O FCU. 

  • Ryan Wilen of Sturgis, SD is a current college student and is a member of Northern Hills FCU. 

  • Karli Soyland of Sioux Falls, SD is a current college student and is a member of Sioux Falls FCU. 

A panel of six judges selected the students based upon volunteer experience, school activity involvement and an essay written by the students: “How has your credit union affected both you and your family?”

The students will use the individual $500 scholarships to pursue or continue their degrees in higher education. High school seniors or current college students who are credit union members are eligible to apply each year.

The Credit Union Foundation of the Dakotas (CUFD) purpose is to build community awareness of Dakota credit unions through support of children’s charities; community and social impact organizations or projects; financial education and financial literacy programs through the credit union chapter system; and to provide higher education scholarships throughout our service region in the Dakotas.
