WATFORD CITY, ND – Four scholarships awarded by Dakota West Credit Union have been bestowed upon seniors in Bowman, McKenzie, and Williams Counties. Jessen Homiston of Watford City, Hannah Johnson of Grenora, Ebony Musonda of Scranton, and Elyse Paulson of Bowman each receive $500 towards their college expenses.

Continuing its annual tradition, Dakota West Credit Union invited high school seniors throughout the communities it serves to participate in its 2019 scholarship opportunity and announced the four recipients on its Facebook page. The essay competition focused on the financial institution’s values of Communication, Respectfulness, Positive Attitude, and Responsibility – and asked seniors to speak to their ideas of responsibility in their own lives.

“Being involved in music is fun but also time consuming.  It takes a lot of responsibility to be a college student and I plan on taking advantage of every opportunity that I can,” wrote Musonda. Pursuing a degree in Animal Science at North Dakota State University, Paulson hopes to emulate noted veterinarians for their responsibility and service to animals and their owners.  “They are loved because they are responsible.” Homiston plans to attend a four-year school in North Dakota where he wants to pursue a degree in Accounting.  “Being responsible means working hard and doing your best on the tasks given to you.  It also means being respectful of others and their duties.” Johnson, writing about her personal views of responsibility stated, “To me, responsibility means to be trust worthy, not having to reply on others for things you can do yourself, staying true to your word, learning how to be a problem solver, being a continuous learner, and having other skills, like time management.”  She plans to attend the University of North Dakota where she want to pursue a degree in Communications.
