SAN ANTONIO, TX – April 30, 2019 – The Security Service Charitable Foundation is helping children with special needs fulfill their dreams of dancing and playing sports. The Foundation recently donated $5,000 to Kinetic Kids to help develop and implement two programs for children living on the south side of San Antonio. The first, a fall dance program at Palo Alto College and the second, a one-day community sports day at Harlandale Independent School District.
Two pediatric physical therapists created Kinetic Kids in 2001 after they realized there were no sports programs for patients with physical disabilities but normal intelligence. “Every child should be able to participate in extra-curricular activities,” said Aaron Leek, senior vice president of operations for Security Service Federal Credit Union and member of the Kinetic Kids Board. “Seeing the joy these programs bring to both children and their families is indescribable and we are honored to be a part of it.”
In 2019, Kinetic Kids expects more than 5,500 children to participate in 262 Kinetic Kids’ programs. Participants reside in Bexar, Kendall, and Comal counties and range in age from 18 months to 18 years. “In 2019, we plan to double the number of participants on the south side of San Antonio and expect a twenty percent growth in the number of programs,” said Kacey Wernli, co-executive director of Kinetic Kids. “It is only through the generosity of the Security Service Charitable Foundation that we are able to offer more services to more people. Great partners make a world of difference.”
Kinetic Kids has held programs on San Antonio’s south side for over eight years; consistently offering one basketball and one baseball program each season through partnerships with local facilities including Mission Road Developmental Center, 5 Diamonds Little Leagues Fields and Palo Alto College. This donation will help them grow their reach throughout this deserving area of San Antonio. The Security Service Charitable Foundation helps further Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate goal of community service by contributing to deserving organizations and causes in the credit union's market areas.
