STRATFORD, CT – (February 25, 2019) – Sikorsky Credit Union has partnered with the Stratford School System’s Business Education Support Team (BEST) to bring financial literacy to local high school students.

Sikorsky Credit Union’s mini-grant of $1,000 is going to The Financial Literacy Committee’s district wide initiative “Financial Literacy is for Everyone”. This initiative is to educate students on the importance of managing their finances. The grant will specifically support financial literacy day for elementary school students through the purchasing of an activity box that has books and activities to go along with it for all elementary grades.

Sikorsky Credit Union has been an active part of promoting financial literacy in local Connecticut schools through their established LIVE LARGE youth program. Through LIVE LARGE, Sikorsky Credit Union puts on Financial Reality Fairs that give students a glimpse of what their financial future may look like. Stratford’s BEST provides grants for innovative and outstanding projects that otherwise would not be funded.  It was designed to promote excellence by supporting teachers in their classroom efforts, in many areas including mentoring to scholarships. Since its inception, over 50,000 students have benefitted from BEST.

When asked about the partnership with BEST, the coordinator of the LIVE LARGE program, Sikorsky Credit Union’s Dan Ruskin says, “Every age can benefit from developing good financial habits.  I am proud that my company has been so willing to support programs and causes that help students.  This year’s grant has the potential to impact many students and I can’t wait to see what programs are supported.” In addition to partnering with BEST, Sikorsky Credit Union recently made an additional monetary donation to Stratford elementary schools to provide each kindergartener with a moon jar. Moon jars are often the first exposure children have to learning about managing money.

Sikorsky Credit Union was founded in 1948 and is open to everyone who lives, works, or worships in Fairfield, Hartford, or New Haven counties, with 10 branches located in Bridgeport, Brookfield, Danbury, Milford, Seymour, Shelton, Stratford, and Trumbull.  Bank with Sikorsky Credit Union in person, online, or on the go with our mobile banking app. Deposits are insured by the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the U.S. Government.
