RAPID CITY, S.D. – Supporting their community, employees and members at Black Hills Federal Credit Union contributed a variety of supplies and donated more than $3,700 to local nonprofits and charitable causes in January.

During a recent Community Action Team project to benefit the Autism Society of the Black Hills, employees raised $1,000 through a donation-based eat-in and jeans day fundraiser. The funds will assist the nonprofit’s efforts to provide information, support and encouragement to families and individuals affected by autism in the Black Hills area.

“Through camps, activities, and various support opportunities, the Autism Society of the Black Hills is helping autistic individuals become all they can be,” said Connie Price, chair of BHFCU’s Community Action Team project for the Autism Society of the Black Hills.  “We’re proud to support this great organization’s efforts to improve the lives of individuals and families in our community.”

Employees also raised more than $700 for MEALS on Wheels Western South Dakota, donated $600 to the Rapid City Police Department’s Community Reward Fund and collected $2,000 during a fundraiser for the Regional Health Foundation’s Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign. They also contributed 250 pounds of canned goods and non-perishable items to South Dakota School of Mines and Technology’s 9th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Food Drive. Additionally, they provided toiletry items and snack items for the credit union’s annual Troops Care Package project, which benefits South Dakota service members deployed overseas.

This February, BHFCU’s employees and members are participating in Community Action Team projects to benefit Special Olympics of South Dakota and the Valentines for Veterans’ card drive.

With support from its members, BHFCU’s employee-led Community Action Team contributes to and volunteers with more than 60 local, charitable organizations through the Black Hills FCU Charitable Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, every year.
