RICHMOND (FEB. 8, 2019) – Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia, a nonprofit that grants life-changing wishes to children diagnosed with critical illnesses, announced today that the organization has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the We Promise Foundation, Chartway Federal Credit Union’s charitable arm. This grant will help fund the wishes of approximately 15 children this year in the Tidewater region.

“We can only get closer to achieving our vision of granting every eligible child’s wish through the generous support of our community,” said Sheri Lambert, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia. “We are truly grateful for the continued support from Chartway Federal Credit Union’s We Promise Foundation. This grant will help more local children experience the strength and hope provided by a wish-come-true.”

We Promise Foundation Executive Director Karen Lane said the credit union’s charitable arm is a proud supporter of Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia. “For children facing medical hardship or illness, having the chance to experience a wish can be life-changing,” she said. “That’s why we could not be more honored to partner with Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia to bring joy, hope, and smiles to deserving heroes right here in Hampton Roads.”

Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia has set the goal of granting 179 wishes this fiscal year. In January 2019, the organization granted its 5,000th local wish since the organization’s inception in 1987.

ABOUT MAKE-A-WISH

Make-A-Wish® creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. We are on a quest to bring every eligible child's wish to life, because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey. Research shows children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Headquartered in Richmond, Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia has granted more than 5,000 wishes since 1987. Together, generous donors, supporters, staff and volunteers throughout Virginia grant a wish, on average, every 48 hours.
