M-O Federal CU Makes Donation to Peoples Transit
January 24, 2019
Huron, SD - Throughout last year, M-O Federal Credit Union staff participated in designated “Jeans Weeks” as a way to raise donation funds for their chosen charity. For 2018, they chose People’s Transit to receive these donated funds. Staff recently presented the organization with a check for $150.
People’s Transit is a 501©(3) private, non-profit public transit service, with the purpose to offer safe, reliable, convenient and affordable transportation for people of all ages living in Huron, SD and the surrounding area. The donation from the credit union will help people in their community continue to have this needed service.

M-O Federal Credit Union (M-O stands for Missouri-Oahe) of Huron, South Dakota was chartered in 1950 when 14 members from the US Bureau of Reclamation pooled their money together. As the Bureau of Reclamation employees were working on building the Oahe Dam at the Missouri River, traveling from Huron to Pierre each week was creating a hardship for many families. The credit union was formed to lend money to the federal employees traveling to work on the dam. Shortly thereafter, membership was expanded to include all federal and postal employees and their families. Today, they have more than 2,000 members and hold nearly $27M in assets.
