TopLine Federal Credit Union Recognized for Community Impact & Outreach Efforts
January 22, 2019
TopLine Financial Credit Union is a not-for-profit, member-owned financial services cooperative serving the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. Since 1935, we’ve been the safe, local banking choice for Minnesotans looking for greater financial peace of mind.
MAPLE GROVE, MINN.—January 22, 2019—Local member-owned cooperative TopLine Federal Credit Union won two outstanding marketing awards from the Minnesota Credit Union Network. The Minnesota Credit Union Marketing Awards honored TopLine in two categories: Community Impact & Outreach and Digital Advertising.
In the Community Impact & Outreach category, TopLine won in its asset category for its “Knitting Club at Noon”. TopLine started an internal knitting and crochet club in October 2017 based on an employee suggestion as a way to bring employees together that share a common interest and to help develop relationships across the organization. Interested employees meet every Wednesday over lunch to work on projects, share new ideas and teach beginners how to knit or crochet. The club quickly decided they should knit for a purpose, and researched several charitable causes, and selected three non-profit organizations.
The club knitted over 200 red scarves for “The Red Scarf Project,” started by Foster Care to Success, a non-profit organization that works solely with college bound foster youth. They also knitted nearly 200 purple baby hats for Click for Babies, a grassroots campaign that invites knitters to donate hats to support families and bring awareness to purple crying and shaken baby syndrome. Plus the team knitted 70 red baby hats for the American Heart Association’s Little Hats, Big Hearts Program, a program that donates knitted and crocheted hats to thousands of babies during American Heart Month to empower moms to live heart healthy lives and to help their children do the same.
In the Digital Advertising category, TopLine’s “Knitting at Noon” Facebook post brought the honor. In its endeavor to continue to build digital visibility and online presence, TopLine posted about the cause-related efforts supported by employees who participate in a knitting club, who make scarves and hats to donate to non-profit organizations, such as Foster Care to Success, Click for Babies and American Heart Association’s Little Hats, Big Hearts Program.
Using social media to get the word out, TopLine reached nearly 6,000 people, received over 180 comments and shares and much more positive in-person feedback. The credit union started to receive donations of yarn and scarves from members and the public to help support their philanthropic causes. “We are truly honored to be recognized with these two awards from MnCUN,” said Vicki Erickson, Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, TopLine Federal Credit Union. “We are highly committed to supporting our communities and other non-profits to help make a positive difference in peoples’ lives. It was remarkable to see the collaboration and connections that were made by our staff with our members, community and non-profit partners; it’s just an added bonus to have those efforts highlighted by our peers within the credit union community.”
