RAPID CITY, S.D. – In December, employees at Black Hills Federal Credit Union organized a number of drives to collect coats, supplies, and gifts, as well as raise nearly $1,800 for nonprofits in their communities.

As part of a Community Action Team project to benefit the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program, employees and members purchased 50 holidays gifts and donated nearly $700 through a special drive and jeans day fundraiser. The assistance program helps provide personalized gifts and supplies for children and families in need over the holidays.

“There are many families across South Dakota that often struggle during the holidays,” said Casey Monroe, co-chair of BHFCU’s Community Action Team project for the Salvation Army. “The Salvation Army Angel Tree program is a great way for BHFCU’s employees and members to give back to our community in a meaningful way.”

Employees also raised $200 for the Lakota Voice Project, a nonprofit working to combat youth suicide on the Pine Ridge Reservation. They also donated much-needed toiletries, clothing, and bedding to Working Against Violence, Inc., the Hope Center and Western Community Action. Additionally, they donated $900 to Pizza Ranch’s 12 Days of Pizza program in Pierre and Sioux Falls, as well as $500 to Sioux Falls Cares.

In January, BHFCU’s employees and members are participating in Community Action Team projects to benefit the Regional Health Foundation, Autism Society of the Black Hills, MEALS on Wheels Western South Dakota, and Troops Care Packages project.

With support from its members, BHFCU’s employee-led Community Action Team contributes to and volunteers with more than 60 local, charitable organizations throughout the year. You can get involved with and stay up-to-date on all of BHFCU’s current CAT projects by following BHFCU on Facebook.
